Many Women Are Starved For Sleep   (HealthDay News, 10/03)
Start with the stresses of work and family. Add household responsibilities and
perhaps worry about an elderly parent. Then factor in the hormonal changes that
come with being female, and it should come as no surprise many women are
shortchanged on sleep.

Sleep Replenishes The Memory Bank   (HealthDay News, 10/03)
If you want to improve your recall, try getting more shut-eye at night.  Two
studies appearing in the Oct. 9 issue of Nature found human memory improves
after sleeping.  

Sound Sleep May Help Fight Cancer   (HealthDay News, 10/03)
A good night's sleep may help you fight cancer, says a Stanford University Medical
Center study.  Previous research found that cancer patients with a strong social
support network or who take part in group therapy fare better than people with
weaker social support. This new study suggests that a person's sleep/wake cycle
may explain how such psychosocial factors can have an impact on cancer.

Restless Legs Cause Sleepless Nights   (The Boston Globe, 9/03)
So, the patient goes to a neurologist. Every night, he tells the doctor, he gets
these creepy, crawly feelings in his legs as he starts to drift off to sleep. It's not
pain, exactly, but an irresistible urge to move his legs. He gets up, does a few
deep knee bends. That helps. But as soon as the patient goes back to bed, the
creepy-crawlies start up again.

CPAP Treatments Also Benefit Bed Partners   (HealthDay News, 9/03)
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy can be a positive wind of
change for both patients with obstructive sleep apnea and their bed partners.
